    I. Congratulations to New Dragon Force Demo Team / National Team Members:

    Congratulations to the following Outstanding students who successfully passed the Test and made the Dragon Force Karate Demo Team and National Team on 17 April 2008.

    II:New Adult Brown Belt: Congratulations and Well done to Ryoshin-Kan Adult Student, Chris Williams, on his promotion to Brown Belt (3rd Kyu) on 17 April 2008. He did outstanding on all areas of his test including an Iron Palm patio brick break! WELL DONE !

    III: GREAT EARTH DAY KARATE SHOW: Congratulations and Well Done to the Dragon Force / Ryoshin-Kan Karate School on performing an outstanding Karate Show at the Earth Day Festival at Mount Trashmore on 4 May 2008. The weather was beautiful! This was our First real Full Karate Show this year. All routines were sharp. Overall it was a Great Show. Congratulations to Sensei Thompson, Sempai Michael Milliman, Sempai Zinjin Iglesia, Sempai Maurice Reed, Sempai Bella Bartha, Keegan Grinspoon, Trent DePeralta, Kai Loree, Chris Altman, Joe Ramirez, Daniel Daum, Patric Harris, and Nicolas Carbone. A Thank you goes out to all Parents, Friends and fans who supported us. Congratulations to all on a Job well done!

    IV:RADIO SHOW GUEST / FOOD DRIVE: The Ryoshin-Kan Karate School will be helping the Specialist Radio Hour Food Drive. The Food collected by this Radio Show is given to Churches throughout the area to distribute to the families who need help. We are requesting that all students and their friends bring two or more can foods to the Karate School and place them in the Box at the front of the Karate School. Your Support is greatly appreciated.

    NOTE: Sensei Thompson was a Special Guest once again on this Radio Show on 29 April 2008. Ryoshin-Kan / Dragon Force are regularly featured on the TAS TV Show on Cox Cable channel 51 / 11 (various times)and on the Specialist Radio Hour on WPMH 670AM / 1450AM (5 to 6pm).
    The Host of the Show is an official Ryoshin-Kan student.

    I. East Coast Karate Champions

    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan / Team Dragon Force on an outstanding performance at the 2008 USA East Coast / Tidewater Challenge Martial Arts Championships that were conducted 5 April 2008 at the Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia. We had 18 folks from the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School, who participated and / or supported the "Team Dragon Force" at this Tournament. We won a Total of 21 Awards including Twelve 1st Place Trophies, Seven 2nd Place Trophies and Two 3rd Place Trophies. We won 1st Place is Team Demo, Self-Defense, Breaking, Kumite, Kata, Musical Forms, and Weapons.
    The First Place Karate champions are Sensei Tim Thompson, Sempai Michael Milliman, Sempai Zinjin Iglesia, Sempai Maurice Reed, Keegan Grinspoon, Kai Loree, Trent Deperalta and Chris Altman.
    Dragon Force did Outstanding and Won 1st Place in the "Team Demo" Division.
    They had all of the spectators cheering.

    II:CONGRATS: SPRING BREAK KARATE CAMP: Congratulations and Well done to the 21 participants of the Spring Break Karate Camp that was conducted at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School on 24 to 28 March 2008. The Spring Camp included Martial Arts Training, Tournament Training, Games, Contest, Field Trips, Belt Testing and lots of fun….. A Special Thanks You goes to Sempai Bella Bartha who was the Number One Karate Camp Assistant. Thank you to Sempai Zinjin Iglesia for Assisting on Thursday / Friday at the Karate Camp. Sempai Maurice Reed helped on Friday. Chris Altman also received a Camp Helper Award. Congratulations and Well done to All!

    III: GREAT MARTIAL ARTS SEMINARS / CLINICS: Well done to all Participants of the Self-Defense, Breaking and Tournament Training Clinics /Seminars conducted in March and April at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School.

    NOTE: Self-Defense class / clinics conducted every Wednesday at 8pm. All Ryoshin-Kan Students are encourage to participate.

    I. Congratulations to New Brown Belts:

    Well done to Kai Loree and Christopher Altman on their promotion to Brown Belt (3rd Kyu) on 28 February 2008. Both did outstanding on their Test. Congratulations and Well done!

    II: Spring Break Karate Camp: 24 to 28 March 2008

    The Spring Break Karate Camp at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School will be conducted from 24 to 28 March 2008 from 9 AM to 5pm. This is a perfect time for all Youth since they are out of school for Spring Break. Discounts for two or more from the same Family. Students can be dropped off earlier and they can stay for the evening regular classes. See Sensei for Details. We will work with you on your schedule. The Ryoshin-Kan Spring Break Day Camp will include Martial Arts Training, Tournament Training, Games, Contest, Field Trip and fun….. This Karate Camp will be conducted at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Anyone can attend so bring a friend and participate.

    I. RYOSHIN-KAN TV SPECIAL: The Ryoshin-Kan Karate School was featured on the TAS Sports TV Show on Saturday 16 February 2008. We have been a regular feature on this TV Show since 1995.

    II. SENSEI THOMPSON FEATURED on the SPECIALIST RADIO SHOW:

    Sensei Thompson was a special guest on "The Specialist Radio Show" on WPMH 670 AM/1450 AM Radio in Chesapeake, VA on Friday 15 February 2008. Sensei Thompson was interviewed on his tremendous accomplishments in the martial arts including Teaching, Practicing, Demo Team, National Champions and the success of Ryoshin-Kan Karate School., The Host of the Show, who has been in the martial arts for years, is now an official Ryoshin-Kan student.

    III. Specialist Radio Show FOOD DRIVE

    The Ryoshin-Kan Karate School will be helping the Specialist Radio Hour Food Drive. The Food collected by this Radio Show is given to Churches throughout the area to distribute to the families who need help. This is an ongoing process so we will assist this Radio Show with their continuing Food Drive program.
    We need all students to bring two or more can foods to the Karate School and place them in the Box at the front of the Karate School.

    IV. DISCIPLINE / SELF-DEFENSE LECTURE TO AARP ORGANIZATION: Sensei Thompson gave a Lecture on Discipline / Self-Discipline to the members of the Princess Ann A.A.R.P at the Princess Ann Recreation Center meeting room in Virginia Beach on 12 February 2008. The Lecture included Discipline in the Martial Arts, Life and throughout History. A special thank you to Mrs. Milliman who requested this Lecture.

    I:) Message from Sensei: Happy New Year to the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School and all of our friends. We have many great things planned for 2008, including martial arts classes, camps, tournaments, demos, seminars and special events. This is the 28th Anniversary of the Founding of the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School.

    2007 in REVIEW
    I want to thank each and everyone of you for your devotion and support that you have given me throughout 2007. We have had fun doing the Martial Arts Classes, Karate Camps, Tournaments, Seminars, Breaking Clinics, Self-Defense Clinics, Tournament Clinics, Black Belt Exam, Kyu Belt Test, Awards Banquet, Winter Shugyo and Demos.
    The 2007 Summer Karate Camp Program was the most successful Karate Camp in Ryoshin-Kan History.
    We won 3rd Place out of 75 units in the Strawberry Festival Parade.
    NATIONAL CHAMPIONS: The Dragon Force National Karate Demo Team was at it's Best in 2007. We won the 2007 Team Demo Grand Champion / 1st Place Trophy at 3 Major Tournaments which were the World Cup Finals / National Martial Arts Championships, The East Coast Karate Championships and the World Fall Classic Martial Arts Championships.
    Sempai Michael Bartha won 1st Place in Breaking and Sempai Michael Milliman won 2nd Place in Breaking at the World Classic Championships.
    Sensei Thompson met his Goal and set a Ryoshin-Kan Record by Breaking 10 large stacked Bricks with an elbow strike on Thanksgiving Day 22 November 2007.
    Sensei Michael Lombardo return to Action at the School and was Promoted at the Black Belt Exam to 4th Degree Black Belt. I promoted 12 other Students to Higher Ranks at this 2007 Exam including Sensei Steve Borloz to Kobudo Sandan, Bella and Leo to Nidan, Maurice and Nami Kobudo Certification, Mike Bartha and Zinjin to Goshinjitsu Certification, Greg, Tyler and Braxton to Shodan.
    Sensei Steve Borloz receive the "Instructor of the Year" Award and Sempai Bella Bartha receive the "Black Belt of the Year" Award at the Black Belt Awards Banquet.
    Don't just dream your dreams, Live your Dreams. Thank You again for being loyal and hardworking Students. You are the "Best of the Best."

    II:) WINTER SHUGYO RESULTS:
    Congratulations and Well Done to all participants of the Ryoshin-Kan's 27th annual Winter Shugyo that was conducted on 1 January 2008 at 6:30am on the Beach and in the Ocean.
    Winter Shugyo is a special training event for Karate Students to welcome in the New Year. This is a very Traditional Event that brings out the True Karate Spirit in all of us. After the Training we all went to Breakfast at the OceanFront.
    Well Done to Shihan Thompson, Sensei Steve Borloz, Sensei Michael Lombardo, Sempai Bella Bartha, Sempai Mike Bartha, Kai Loree, Khyah Fields, Allan Loree, Chikako Loree, John Fields.

    III:) Great Parade and Cold Weather!
    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan / Dragon Force Team on performing an Outstanding Karate Show for the Help Build The Dream Fundraiser Parade in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on 21 January 2008 at the Gallery at Military Circle Mall in Norfolk, Virginia.
    The Drummers, Color Guard and Marchers and all guest did outstanding even though it was very, very cold! We had huge crowds of spectators and there were 18 assigned units in the Parade.

    2008 & 2007
    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan students who participated in the Tameshiwari (Breaking) Clinics conducted at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School in Virginia Beach, Virginia in May through December 2007 and January, February, March 2008..
    Sensei Thompson taught and performed various breaking Techniques for youth students on Saturday and the Black Belt Adults on Sunday morning. The Adults Participants broke stacks of Bricks, Wood Boards, Wood Clubs, Ceramic tiles, large clay flower pots, Patio Blocks, and Cinder Blocks. The techniques taught were Elbow strikes, Spin Heel Kicks, Speed Breaks, Punches, Iron Palm, Hammer Fist, Knife Hand, Front Kick, Side Kick, Knee strikes, and Forearm strikes.

    I:) GREAT CHRISTMAS KARATE SHOW:

    Congratulations and Well Done to all Ryoshin-Kan / Dragon Force Participants of the 24th Annual Christmas Karate Show performed on 19 DEC 2007 at the Gallery at Military Circle. All routines planned and unplanned were great and fun! We performed 12 ACTS in honor of the Twelve Days of Christmas. This show was really special because we broke 24 boards and 40 bricks.
    We want to Thank all students, parents, guest, friends and fans for your support.
  • The TAS TV Show will be showing our Christmas Karate Show on COX Cable throughout the Holiday period. It will show on TV for two weeks on Cox Cable Channel 11.

    Congratulations to all Participants of the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School's 24th Annual Black Belt Exam and Awards Banquet that were conducted on 12 and 13 December 2007. We also celebrated the 27th Anniversary of the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School and the Dragon Force Demo Team. We had Seventy-Three (73) Black / Brown Belts/ Demo Team Members and guest attend the Banquet which was a formal affair. Sensei Thompson gave out over one hundred awards, including Black Belt Promotion Diplomas / Certifications, Certificates of Appreciation, Dragon Force Demo Team Awards, Dragon Force National Team Champion Awards, Twenty-one Special Plaques and numerous other awards.

    24 November 2007

    I:) TV SPECIAL and NEWS ARTICLE: Team Dragon Force was recently featured on the TAS TV Show and on several on-line news sites concerning their impressive 2007 Tournament Victories. This Dragon Force National Karate Team won 1st Place / Grand Champion Trophy at the 2007 World Cup Finals Martial Arts Championships conducted in Washington, D.C. area, the 2007 East Coast Karate Championships and the 2007 World Fall Classic Martial Arts Championships conducted at Hampton University. They are the WCMAO National Karate Demo Team Champions.

    II:) CONGRATS on UNIVERSITY APPOINTMENT: Dr. / Shihan Thompson was recently appointed to be a distinguish member of the Board of Directors of the Scientific Council of FIMA University. He attended college at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and graduated from this famous institution in 1977 with a BA in History. He Received his Doctorate in Sciences Ph.D / DMS (Martial Arts / Science) from the First International M.A. University in 2006. His Thesis on the Ryoshin-Kan System of Goshinjitsu and Combat Speed will soon be published as a Book. He is a Karate Master, Hall of Famer, World / National Karate Champion, and a Retired Decorated Navy Commander.

    III:) EXCELLENT BREAKING CLINICS: Congratulations to all participants of the Tameshiwari (Breaking) Clinics that were conducted in October and November 2007. The participants were taught and performed Various Breaking Techniques on stacks of Bricks, Wood Boards, Wood Clubs, Ceramic tiles, large clay flower pots, Patio Blocks, and Cinder Blocks. The techniques included Elbow strikes, Spin Heel Kicks, Speed Breaks, Punches, Knife Hand, Knee strikes, Kicks, Iron Palm and Forearm strikes.

    IV:) NEW RYOSHIN-KAN BRICK BREAKING RECORDS:
  • (A)Congratulations to Sensei Thompson on Breaking TEN (10) large stacked Red Bricks with an Elbow Strike on 22 November 2007. He met his Goal to Break 10 stacked bricks by the end of 2007. Well Done!
  • (B)Congratulations to Mike Bartha on winning 1st Place in Breaking at the 2007 World Fall Classic Martial Arts Championships. NOTE: Another Adult Black Belt Student from Ryoshin-Kan, Michael Milliman also won 2nd Place in breaking at this Tournament.

    V:) EXCELLENT SELF-DEFENSE CLINICS: Congratulations to all Participants of the Goshinjitsu (Self-Defense) Clinics that were conducted in October and November 2007. Basic to advance self-defense techniques against armed and unarmed attacks were taught and practiced.

    VI:)DRAGON FORCE RECEIVES AWARD: The City of Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation/Clean Community Commission presented the "Clean Community Partner Award" to the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School's Dragon Force Karate Demo Team on 20 November 2007. The award is signed by the Mayor of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Meyera Oberndorf. The award was for the Dragon Force Karate Demo Team's outstanding performance and exceptional contributions to Virginia Beach Clean Community Programs / City Events like the Earth Day Celebration and the Strawberry Festival. The Award Plaque is mounted on the Wall at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School.

    VII:) GREAT KARATE DEMOS: Congratulations and Well Done to the Dragon Force on performing Outstanding Karate Shows for the "Red Ribbon Festival" on 20 October 2007 and the "Thanksgiving Fall Festival " on 17 November 2007 at the Gallery at Military Circle Mall in Norfolk, Virginia. All Routines were sharp especially the National Routine, Brick Breaking, Weapons Kata, Complexes, Self-Defense, Martial Arts stunts, Drum Corps / Color Guard Routine and the slow motion routine.

    I. WORLD FALL CLASSIC KARATE CHAMPIONS 2007:

    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School's Dragon Force National Team on an outstanding performance at the at the 2007 World Fall Classic Martial Arts Championships conducted 7 October at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.
    We had 35 participants from Ryoshin-Kan that represented our Dojo at this Tournament.
    We won Fifteen 1st Place Trophies in Team Demo, Self-Defense, Breaking, Team Demo , Weapons, Kata, Kumite, Breaking, and Musical Weapons.
    We won a Total of thirty-one Trophies.

    The Dragon Force National Team / Ryoshin-Kan did outstanding in all events.
    All of you are Karate Champions!

    I. EXCELLENT BREAKING CLINICS:

    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan students who participated in the Tameshiwari (Breaking) Clinics conducted at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School in Virginia Beach, Virginia on 26 August, 1 and 2 September 2007.
    Sensei Thompson taught and performed various breaking Techniques for youth students on Saturday and the Black Belt Adults on Sunday morning.
  • YOUTH BREAKING CLINIC: The Youth worked on Breaking Choreography for Tournaments. Each student had to create and show 6 breaks using re-breakable boards. All students did outstanding. Congratulations to Maurice Reed, Chris Herron, Bella Bartha and Keegan Grinspoon.
  • ADULT BREAKING CLINIC: The Adults Participants broke stacks of Bricks, Wood Boards, Wood Clubs, Ceramic tiles, large clay flower pots, Patio Blocks, and Cinder Blocks. The techniques taught were Elbow strikes, Spin Heel Kicks, Speed Breaks, Punches, Iron Palm, Hammer Fist, Knife Hand, Front Kick, Side Kick, Knee strikes, and Forearm strikes. There was also nunchaku techniques performed on a cinder Block....RESULTS "No More Cinder Block!" Just Cider Ash.
  • RESULTS:
    Sensei Tim Thompson broke 6 stacked Mix Bricks (Red & White) with an elbow Technique, Four stacked bricks with the Iron Palm Technique, 7 ceramic tiles with a knife hand technique, Large Clay Pots (hanging from a rope) with a spinning hook kick.     Sempai Mike Bartha broke six stacked patio bricks (Pencil Spacers) with the elbow and four with the Iron Palm techniques. Speed Break on wood using a knife hand. He also broke a large wood club and side kicked thru a board. Mike has made great progress towards his goal of competing at the US Open Breaking Competition at Disney World.
    Sempai Michael Milliman broke 3 Patio Bricks & Mix Bricks with the Elbow, Hammer Fist and Palm Strikes. Congratulations and Well Done to all Participants.

    II:)Tameshiwari (Breaking) DVD: The New Tameshiwari DVD by Dragon Force Productions cover instruction as well as demos of Breaking Techniques on boards and Bricks. Breaking teaches a student the true meaning of Power, Speed, Technique and Kime (focus). The video footage from Breaking clinics / private lessons will be used in the upcoming Breaking DVD. Sensei Thompson has been working on the Breaking DVD all Summer. This DVD shows creative,speed and power breaking. Materials Broken are Boards, Bricks, Clay Flower Pots, Ceramic Tiles and more.     III. GREAT KARATE CAMP 2007

    Congratulations and Well Done to all participants of the Karate Summer Camp Program that was conducted 18 June to 31 August 2007 at the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Karate Camp Events included Martial Arts Training, Belt Testing, Field Trips, Movie Trips, Games, Contest and tons of fun….. We took exciting and educational field trips to the Movie Theater, Various Restaurants, Ocean Breeze Water Park, Virginia Marine Science Museum, Children's Museum, Ferry Boat Ride, The Virginia Zoo, Mt. Trashmore Kids Cove and Cinema Cafe. We had students from Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Iowa and California. Everyone did outstanding. The Camp participation student average was 15 to 28 students a day...Wow! A special Thank you to Sempai Michael Milliman, Sempai Zinjin Iglesia, Sempai Nami Dao, Zachary McEwen, Sempai Bella Bartha and My Wife on helping at Karate Camp. All of you did outstanding as Camp Assistants especially Bella Bartha. I look forward to seeing all of you in Karate Class and in future Karate Camps and events.

    II. STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL 2007 -
    Congratulations and Well done to the entire Ryoshin-Kan Karate School, Dragon Force Demo Team, parents, relatives, friends and fans on your participation / performance at the 2007 Pungo Strawberry Festival parade and Karate Show. We had 50 plus folks that represented our School at the Strawberry Festival. This was Ryoshin-Kan's 19th year in performing at the Strawberry Festival.
    STRAWBERRY PARADE RESULTS: The Ryoshin-Kan Parade unit that participated in the Strawberry Parade on 26 May consisted of a Banner Team, Color Guard, Drum corps and the very Strawberry / Dragon Force Float. Sensei Michael Wilkins did excellent as my assistant and Drum Corps / Parade Instructor. Sempai Mike Bartha, Greg Bates, Alan Loree, Candy Bartha and Sharon DePeralta were the Key builders and providers of the Float. The parents and students who help to prep and be with the floats were second to none.
    We were received two Awards;
    1.Special Pungo Strawberry Festival Award.
    2.Strawberry Festival Parade 3rd Place Floats
    STRAWBERRY KARATE SHOW RESULTS: The Strawberry Festival Dragon Force Karate Show was on 27 May and we performed Excellent Routines in Hot Weather and a dusty stage to huge numbers of cheering spectators. All routines were outstanding. We gave out over 650 Karate School fliers.

    I. WORLD CUP GRAND CHAMPIONS! -

    Dragon Force Won World Cup Grand Champion Trophy!
    WCMAO Karate Demo Team National Champions
    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School's Dragon Force National Team on an outstanding performance in winning the "Team Demo" 1st Place Grand Champion Trophy at the World Cup Martial Arts Championships that were conducted 12 & 13 January 2007 in the Washington, D.C. area.
    Team Dragon Force is the Team Demo National Karate Champions !
    Team Dragon Force had 28 participants / spectators from Ryoshin-Kan that represented their Dojo at this World Cup Finals. They won a Total of twenty Trophies including the WCMAO "Team Demo" Grand Champion Trophy. The Dragon Force National Team did outstanding in all events and they had all of the spectators cheering. They won 1st Place and the Demo Team National Title. Dragon Force is the First Team to win the Team Demo Title 3 years in a Row. All Ryoshin-Kan Students did really well.

CONGRATULATIONS to SENSEI THOMPSON Ph.D Degree: Well done to Sensei Tim Thompson on passing his Doctorate / Ph.D in Martial Arts / Science Degree Requirements established by the International Martial Arts University and World Sports Institute. He has been doing intense research, practice, teaching, performing and study towards his Doctorate for the last 8 years. He put to the test all of his 30 plus years of martial arts knowledge and abilities into his Doctorate program. He was awarded his Doctorate in Martial Science on 15 December 2006. His Goshinjitsu and Combat Speed Thesis will soon be available in a Book and on CD.

    National Martial Arts Champions
    Congratulations and Well Done to the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School's Dragon Force National Team on an outstanding performance at the World Cup Martial Arts Championships that were conducted 12 & 13 January 2007 in the Washington, D.C. area. All of you are National Karate Champions ! We had 28 participants / spectators from Ryoshin-Kan that represented our Dojo at this World Cup Finals. We won a Total of twenty Trophies including one Grand Champion, Two Grand champion Runner-Ups and Five 1st Place Trophies. The Dragon Force National Team did outstanding in all events and they had all of the spectators cheering. They won 1st Place and the Demo Team Title. All Ryoshin-Kan Students did really well.
